Cylinders 2 & 3 dead?

Bought a 1996 Civic Coupe DX D16y7 manual 185k.

Previous owner said just needed new distributor. Rebuilt the distrubutor with used coil and igniter on it from one out of the junkyard and got it running, but cylinders 2 and 3 just not working. Swapped injectors from the other working cylinders, swapped plug wires from working cylinders, replaced plugs with new ngk coppers. Cylinders are getting spark and fuel. Compression test were cyl4-148/ cyl3-140/ cyl2-149/ cyl1-148. Leakdown test held pressure. Pins at injectors have power using test light. Pins at P2E ecu had power using test light. Double checked timing marks they are good. This is my first civic and I'm stumped on what else could be the issue.

Re: Cylinders 2 & 3 dead?

My first thought is a breached head gasket between the two offending cylinders, but being that compression isn't low in them then that should rule that possibly out. When you did the leakdown test did you remove the radiator cap to check for bubbles in the radiator to rule out a blown head gasket?

Did you check valve clearances?
Trying removing spark plugs one at a time, connect to spark wires, and test to ground while cranking?
Power balance (rpm drop) test?

I replaced distributor cap, rotor button and wires and it runs good now. I'm guessing the spark was too weak in those cylinders. Thanks for your reply.
