IACV Replacement
IACV Replacement
Check engine light came on a few weeks ago and my mechanic diagnosed it as having a bad idle air control valve. He replaced a sensor along with the valve but the car idles rough and the RPMs are bouncing all over the place. He said perhaps the part was defective and replaced it with another. Same issue. He then replaced it with a part from another shop. Same issue. Now he's claiming that the car might need a valve from the dealership. Does this sound correct? What other issues could be at play? The car is a 2000 Honda Civic EX Coupe with 196k miles. Thanks.

Re: IACV Replacement
Honda's don't like aftermarket sensors so either buy a new one from the dealer or gamble on a used one from a junkyard
Re: IACV Replacement
Got one from the dealer. Car drove fine for a day but the check engine light came back on today. Car is less jerky and will drive smoothly for short stretches but the main symptoms still persist. Back to the mechanic it goes.
