Exhaust 'everything from the manifold out' parts?
Exhaust 'everything from the manifold out' parts?
'99 Honda Civic LX
Hey all,
Been a good two years (and thanks again for everyone who replied to the TPS post - did end up ordering a kit, replaced, calibrated, and purred like a.. well it was 18 years old back then, so not exactly a kitten, but it quit acting up anyway), and it seems my exhaust system is finally ready for replacement as suddenly, after a 'thunk', my car sounded like my neighbor's; awfully roar-y and my rear view mirror shows everything as a blur.. not from going fast but from vibrating.
I'm still not a car guy (hey, since then I replaced all the belts, brake pads, rotors, tires myself, that's something? be gentle), but after some listening to youtube videos it sounded like the muffler had given up the ghost. On the way to a shop I hit a few rough highway-side street bumps and things sounded awfully rattle-y down there. After a short walkthrough by the tech once it was up on the lift, it became clear that I'd be looking at replacing, and I quote, everything from the manifold out, including the spring bolts. The catalytic might be okay, but most likely not. Either way, going through them meant racking up costs in getting the parts through their official channels, handling, etc. so he recommended I buy the parts myself and get them ("or whoever") to install them.
My question is.. what is 'everything from the manifold out'? I had a quick look at rockauto's list of parts categories and the guy went over it with me saying yea/nay to each (he was very patient with me), but I'd like to make sure so I don't order stuff, drive up to whoever gets the joy of putting things on, and then realize I'm missing a special snowflake flange bolt.
Specifically, I saw they offer a kit that seems to include most everything:
https://www.rockauto.com/en/moreinfo...519&cc=1355611
Though if I'm reading the schematic right, there should be two rear silencers (255113), while the kit only contains one?
Additional parts that appear to be missing from that kit, per the quick yea/nay-by-category list, include:
Exhaust manifold gasket - good idea to replace after taking all that apart?
Exhaust bracket - holding up the pipe front section near the catalytic
Clamp - sits between muffler and resonator/pipe assembly, doesn't appear to be part of either in that kit
Tail pipe spout - pretty much decorative, I think? Just a few bucks, not gonna sweat that.
And the catalytic, if I do end up replacing that.
Though if I look at official schematics, I see further components like fuel tank baffle plate (not needed, I think), a bunch of nuts (pretty bog standard self locking metric nuts?), and maybe more..
Does the above look about right? Am I missing something? Thoughts? I don't care too much if it ends up sounding 'tinny', just would be nice to have a conversation with the Mrs that doesn't involve "whaaaat?" every few sentences, and wondering when-not-if the entire thing falls out from under the car
Thanks so much again in advance for people in this forum taking their time to help people with 20 year old cars and only slight amounts of a clue!
