Cracked Exhaust Manifold
Cracked Exhaust Manifold
Last night, after taking off the heat sheild, I noticed that my exhaust manifold is cracked. I have four questions:
1) Is this an easy job to replace? Would I be able to replace this myself?
I have a basic knowledge of cars and am pretty good with my hands fixing things
2) How much would it cost if I just took it to a repair shop? Parts and Labor.
3) Is buying a used part worth it? Or should I just go for a new one?
4) Is this probably why I've been getting only 19mpg?
Thanks in advance for your help!

Re: Cracked Exhaust Manifold
I cracked mine 6 years ago. Drove on it, cracked, until a month ago. Only really effected my mpg... and slightly diminished my performance... my crack was between the middle two ports.
if your catalytic converter is still good (not failing emissions) just replace the manifold down to the cat... (just the 4 ports.) The part is a few hundred bucks (new).. I replaced mine with a used manifold for dirt cheap. 100$
If you're doing it yourself... watch the bolts... they'll be rusted pretty nicely.. hard to get off, yet brittle.. WD40 those bastards and lock-tite them back down when you get the new manifold on.
The labor really isn't that extensive.. just a few bolts.. takes an hour.. 2 if you've never opened your hood.
Edit: Have an o2 sensor removal tool handy.
