Gauges go wild when I use my turn signals

My gauges seem to work fine unless I use my turn signals or hazard lights, when I do the temp gauge jumps to hit, speedometer down to zero and my fuel gauge jumps to full. At the same time this happened my dash lights also went out. Any ideas? 99 civic dx

Short somewhere in the dash. You're going to have to pull stuff apart and look

What does a short look like? How do I tell one when I find it and what do I do to fix it?

You have a gremlin in there. An electrical anomaly. It will look like a loose connection or frayed wire. If you touch a wire and it falls off, bingo.

There might also be connectors that are not completely tight and connecting.

I had a Ford Tempo many years ago (it was given to me, guess why) and the turn signal would move the steering column and short out the ignition and shut the engine off. I don't recall what or how I fixed it with, maybe duck tape. I believe that was the last Ford I had. I hope.
