Hacked/aftermarket push-button ignition has broken - please help with fixing!
Got my '99 DX sedan from someone who swapped the stock key ignition for a chintzy latching push-button switch that controls power-on for the vehicle, with a separate momentary push-button for the starter motor. The problem is that the plastic button itself has broken and falls out of the mechanism occasionally, which causes the switch to unlatch and return to open (killing the power completely in the vehicle).
This has happened several times on the highway resulting in an inability to use turn signals or brake lights to indicate that I am having a problem... this is a very dangerous situation that I would like to avoid from now on.
I would be satisfied to simply replace the broken button with another switch, but when I opened up the steering wheel shroud to swap it out I saw that whoever installed the current button had used JB Weld (black, opaque) to secure whatever sketchy components are part of the circuit, and all I could make out on the back side of the button switch is that a resistor is wired in there somehow, so it does not appear that swapping it out will be as simple as cutting two wires and adding a new SPST switch in between them.
Does anyone have familiarity with what is required to make such a switch work in the power-on circuit so that I can address this safety hazard? Thanks in advance

Would suggest you make a trip to the junkyard this weekend. There are typically many Gen 6s to pick parts from. Always best to go back to stock.
