Parasitic Draw? - 1996 Civic VTi hatchback
I have a 1996 Civic VTi hatchback where the battery seems to have an extremely slow parasitic draw.
Yesterday the battery was dead and I had to get a jump start. I had driven it a week ago. It was driven for at least 20 minutes at that time.
I will take it in for the battery to be fully charged today or tomorrow.
Bought a new battery within the last year. At that time, had a series of the battery going dead (including the new one!).
Electrics thoroughly checked by specialist auto electrical repair shop and nothing was found. No notable trouble since, until yesterday.
I note that the orange lights behind the clock/stereo/cassette deck sometimes go off and sometimes are on after the car has been turned off.
I've also seen these orange lights turn from on to off and from off to on completely by themselves.
Nothing else is on (I have checked everthing I can find, including the trunk/hatch light - which is set to off, and I have been checking that the dome light is off when the car doors are closed - I have now set the dome light to always off).
So, a few questions:
1) are these orange lights supposed to be on or off when the car is off (I'm guessing off, but am wondering if they are on since the clock draws power, even though it's not displayed when the car is off?)
2) is this really enough to drain the battery, albeit very slowly?
3) is there anything I can easily check before I get it looked at by the auto electrical shop?
Thanks for any help.

Re: Parasitic Draw? - 1996 Civic VTi hatchback
In my car the stereo was what was killing my battery, the person wired it wrong and had it so it always had power when it's supposed to only have power when the key is in, that could be your problem as well but I'm not 100% sure since my car has an after market stereo
Re: Parasitic Draw? - 1996 Civic VTi hatchback
The parasitic draw has been fixed! (Ages ago but only now have had the time to update this thread.)
I took it to the auto electrical shop and gave them the details.
Turns out it is a known fault with the factory stereo. After a time, it fails to recognise that it's been turned off (or that the car is off) and it continues to draw electricity.
Had the auto electrical shop disconnect the stereo, which has completely fixed the problem!
(Now, of course, I no longer have a working stereo (or clock) in the car but I can get it replaced at my leisure.)
