2000 Civic Back Up 7.5 Fuse Problems
2000 Civic Back Up 7.5 Fuse Problems
I recently got a 2000 Civic, in great shape and stock everything.
Decided to put in my own radio, installation went great but during the installation I touched two wires and they made a spark, knowing I probably just blew a fuse I checked under the hood and turns out I blew the Back up 7.5 fuse, replaced it and the radio worked fine.
Thing is, when I start the car sometimes the radio won’t turn on at all, power button won’t work to turn it on, but the back light for the buttons will work.
Checked the back up fuse again and it’s fine (other than black residue on the prongs of the fuse as if it’s under load)
Removing the back up fuse and putting it back in while the car is off will prompt the radio to work normally next time I start it. I have to do this like 2-3 times a day. Any solutions?

It almost sounds like the fuse is at its limit; try going to a 10 amp to see if it makes a difference.
Contact cleaner wouldn't hurt either.

-EDIT/UPDATE-
Put the 10 amp fuse in place of the 7.5. The radio used to take a few seconds to turn on and with the 10 amp fuse it turns on instantly when the car is started, started the car a few times and the problem seems fixed.
Just want to know if using the 10 amp fuse in place of the 7.5 would cause any long term problems electrical wise or is the difference too minor.

2.5a isn't that much of an increase, if you stuck like a 15 or a 20 in there that wouldn't be a good idea.
you should check the connections you made for the stereo to see if one is loose or just a crappy connection

Another update
Just started the car and the radio didn’t turn on.
Checked the 10a fuse and it has the black residue on the prongs as the 7.5a fuse did.
Removing and reinserting the fuse worked.
Wiring is seemingly fine on the radio.
Upsizing the fuse isn’t the solution, what could be loading the Fuse this much? I have a subwoofer and an amp, a fairly normal setup. I have a amp turn on wire coming from the radio to the trunk, could the sound system be loading the fuse like that? Or could it be just a cheap radio, I got a dual one from Walmart.

Oh, I know exactly what your issue is. Those are the biggest POS decks I've ever had the pleasure of using. I had one with some subs in my old supra. I had to run like a 20 or 25 amp before I was able to get it to stay on properly. I had no issues with it after.

-edit-
Found one on Amazon for the same price as the Dual and it comes in 3 weeks, so I’ll deal with this until then and see how it goes once I install it. And return the Dual

Regretted the purchase as soon as I got it lol, extremely limited. Just looks good. I’ll order a new radio and I’ll install it and I’ll let y’all know how it goes.

Re: 2000 Civic Back Up 7.5 Fuse Problems
Installed the new radio, cancelled the original one I ordered. Seemed like it was cheap too.
Decided to get another Dual one but higher quality, has apple car play and everything and also came in a lot sooner than the other one.
Anyways, installed it and had it in for a few days now and it’s been good.
So the problem was just a cheap radio. Thanks for all the help
