1995 civic runs rough intermittently
Hello everyone looking for some help. I can start my 95 fine, take it down the road for a 15 minute trip, come back and turn it off. 2 minutes later when I go to start it, seems like its starving for gas. Then the check engine light comes on and it runs rough. Check engine flashes show 1-4 which says its the CPS in the dizzy. If the car sits for 4-5 hours, it starts fine then it repeats the same situation. So this is what I have done so far:
Checked all 3 grounds under the hood and are fine.
Replaced the dizzy ( 2nd time has a lifetime guarantee)
New fuel filter ( done 4 months ago)
Wires and plugs ( done 4 months ago)
disconnected all 3 connector plugs on the ecu and reseated them.
I did notice yesterday when it did start the 1st time , I did not here the usual chimes when you turn the key. Then when I went to start it up the 2nd time, the chimes returned. What I need is a checklist so I can narrow this down. Thanks to all.

Most aftermarket distributors are junk and a used Honda genuine (OEM) may solve the issue. When was the last time the valves were adjusted? Make sure the spark plugs are NGK and are gapped correctly. Fuel pump may be on its way out ? Also, use a small piece of PVC or an auto-stethoscope to listen to the fuel injectors to see if they are firing okay.

Finally fixed. It ended up being a very dirty throttle body assembly loaded with crud. Even the butterfly had rough edges around it. I used amsoil power foam and sprayed the IAC and the throttle body leaving the butterfly wide open. Let it sit not running for about 1/2 hour. The black crap that came out was incredible. And once I started it, it was a fog of smoke for 10 minutes. Squeaky clean now and running great. Thanks for all the ideas. I did not shotgun anything but took all your advice and debugged it. It was a lucky chance I looked in the throttle body assembly. Thanks again.

Glad to hear you solved the issue. Do a valve lash soon if you don't know when it was last checked. Regular maintenance will serve your car well.
