RPM gauge not reading correctly

When starting my car up, my RPM gauge will read at 3-3.5k RPM at idle (usually 1.2-900RPM if it's cold or warmed up), however it's an incorrect reading. Usually after a bit of driving or so, it fixes itself, but what is a good way to solve this?

I've read up that it can be the distributor, but I don't want to sink any more money than I have to. The car got 2 new o2 sensors with the new exhaust, and thats about the only real mods on it.

any ideas?

Re: RPM gauge not reading correctly

I had an issue on my 99 civic with the RPM gauge going in and out. Ran a new wire from TAC signal to gauge and it fixed the issue.

Hope this helps!

Turns out it was some bad grounds. Ended up selling it before I could get to fixing it.
