RPM GAUGE question

On my '98 LX auto, the RPM gauge from 0-1000 is a solid bar. The same from 1000-2K, 2k-3K, & so on.

There are no little lines in between each 1000 RPM to indicate 100s. My question is, what is the 2nd line marker after the first line marker (Zero RPM)?

See red arrow in attached pic.

Re: RPM GAUGE question

My best educated guess would be that the line is 500rpms.. Your idle should be somewhere around 800rpms, so I'm guessing at idle the needle is just a bit below the 1000 mark? The reason that it might not be linear to 0 is that the sending unit might not send a clean enough signal to properly distinguish the actual rpms at that speed, plus the fact that your car would probably not idle successfully at anything that low.

Re: RPM GAUGE question

And that's what I'm trying to decipher: Which RPM my car is idling at? But the 500 marker doesn't make sense to me because for 1) it's too close to the zero marker and the gap from the 2nd marker to the 1K marker is the same distance as from the 1k marker to the 1500 marker...wait a minute!

Oh shiet! I see what you did there. LOL!

I think you're right. It is the 500 marker. My needle idles in the middle of the 500-1000 marker so 700-800 is about dead right.

Thanks.

Hopefully, this will help others who may have wondered the same thing.

Re: RPM GAUGE question

yeah they just squished the 0 rpm too close where it shouldve been further away. prolly since you dont care about the first 500 rpms anyway. our accord is like that too.
