Need suggestion regarding fixing brake lines
Need suggestion regarding fixing brake lines
Hi guys
Long story short, I have a Honda civic 2000. one of the brake line section (between the brake and the flexible from the rear passenger side) was ruptured suddenly and all brake fluid in this brake line where emptied. The master cylinder also look emptied. I bought a new brake line from a dealer and I plan to fix the brake line next week. I have a question for you. In fact, do I need to bleed other brakes even though only one brake line was ruptured? I ask this question because I tried to not touch too much other brakes or brake lines because they are rusty and I'm afraid I will break something which will cost me more time and money.
Anyways thanks.

yes you need to bleed all of them, if you've never done it try to get help from someone that has bled brakes before. way easier with two people anyways.
spray all your bleeder valves with penetrating fluid the day before. and get a set of line wrenches.
you may end up breaking something while working on the car (bleeder, another line) be prepared
you should really change out the other rear line and possibly the fronts as well
also your fuel lines and evap line are right there, they may need replacement as well.

If you think a good mechanic is expensive, try hiring a bad one

other brakes or brake lines because they are rusty and I'm afraid I will break something which will cost me more time and money
You KNOW they are gonna fail sooner or later, one by one, and each time one does fail then you lose brakes which is (obviously) super dangerous....(picture a school bus full of nuns and orphans pulled out in front of you and you have to STAND on the brake pedal----that's when a weak brake line will pop)
How much risk do you really want to take with this?
Also they rot the fuel pipes near the drivers rear tire, so inspect those carefully as well
I'm in the rust belt and I get to deal with fabricating various lines sometimes. It's not really a steep learning curve for flaring and bending but it can become tedious and time consuming to deal with all the other stuff that's rusted and still make your work nice and neat
