New here - 1999 Civic SI

My son just bought a 1999 Civic SI with 93k miles, drove it for a few days, some noises like loose belt squealing and hard to steer sometimes. He drove it today and it started smoking from the engine and battery. Any thoughts?

Possibly, ac belt tensioner or accessory belt(s) for the squealing.
Hard to steer? Is the power steering belt on?
Smoke? what does it smell like (coolant, oil,e electrical)?
Need more specific info and a video would help.

It was the alternator belt, after further review the alternator was missing a bolt to hold it on, alternator was loose and belt came off.
