Unhappy Squeaking noise on Honda Civic 2001 Lx

About 2 weeks ago I started hearing a squeaking noise on the driver side of my car . It gets worse as I accelerate and stops sometimes when I stop. It stops after awhile when the car just sits still. I have had both belts replaced and the squeaking did not stop . Any ideas ?

Most likely a/c (belt) tensioner pulley or the alternator. Use an auto-stethoscope or long piece of 1/2" or 3/4" pvc pipe against your ear to listen for suspected parts when engine is running.

Sounds like the belt is loose like HR said. Get it tightened and everything should be okay.

I was told that I am missing a nut on the lower alternator tightening screw. Could this be the reason for the squeaking and where can I get the nut from ?

Yes, definitely.
Get that fixed asap...could possibly lead to bigger issue PCM damage. Read: https://honda-tech.com/forums/honda-...-read-3166577/

I just use a prybar to adjust the alternator. From underneath.

Don't forget to tighten all the bolts!
Loose alternator mounting bolts can ruin the PCM. That ain't cheap. .

Re: Squeaking noise on Honda Civic 2001 Lx

I found out that the wide belt has a lot of play . The bolt that keeps the belt tight keeps loosening . Any ideas why and how to fix ?

Re: Squeaking noise on Honda Civic 2001 Lx

That belt is for the alternator and A/C compressor (if equipped). There is a wingnut on the bracket on the bottom of the alternator used to tighten the belt. Then there are two more bolts on that same bracket to lock it down.

Re: Squeaking noise on Honda Civic 2001 Lx

So what could be causing the bolt to keep loosening ?

Either the threads are stripped or someone doesn't know how to tighten a bolt
