Rep Power: 0 two DTC Codes?
Hi
Engine light is on, scanned with OBDII tool.
When scanning it comes back:
Fault: 01
Pend: 01
P1457
01/02
&
P1457 P
02/02
Why is P1457 listed twice with the difference noted above?
My research tells me its related to:
Missing Fuel cap -
Incorrect fuel filler cap used
Fuel filler cap remains open or fails to close
Foreign matter caught in fuel filler cap
EVAP purge control solenoid
EVAP canister
Fuel tank pressure sensor
Thanks,
Dan

code can set as either hard (fault) or soft (pending) or both
if you live in an area with rust its probably rotted out the solenoid on the canister

I do live in an area where rust is likely.
I was going to remove the evaporator canister vent valve, open it up, remove the white o-ring, clean/remove rust, reassemble.
The solenoid is in the canister vent valve right, controlling it from opening/closing, and we're assuming its stuck open - can it be cleaned/repaired? Any advice how to proceed with the solenoid?
Thanks!

If you think a good mechanic is expensive, try hiring a bad one

If it looks like this, it's junk.
Pressurized to 1 psi, and sprayed with soap+water

well you can't really repair the solenoid, if you're careful you can probably get the screws out without messing up the canister

Re: two DTC Codes?
i had code P1457 before, my problem was the valve in the pictures,
i removed the screws by grabbing the head with vice grips and turning them, you will never do it with a screw driver

That's where I stopped last weekend, Those 2 phillips were rusted and i couldn't catch anything with the screwdriver.
Did you remove the cannister to work on it with more space?
I'll have to try the vise grip pliers this weekend.

Do whatever you can to make the job easier
use penetrating fluid at least 20 mins before you try to get the screws

I got the canister off, applied wd40 to the 2 screws, will leave it over night.
One screw looks good, the other is partly rusted. I can just about make out the +

Take a look at this. Do I need a new canister now?
Notice the part the screw, screws into, came off and remains attached to the CVS, with the screw on the other end.
Its just sitting on top of the canister so i could get both in the pic.

Re: two DTC Codes?
If the original screws are now unusable, you could zip tie the solenoid in place.
Otherwise you'll be buying another canister

I was able to separate the 'nut insert'? from the screw using a couple of vise grips.
I used a wire brush, sandpaper and toothbrush to clean everything up.
Applied a fair amount of silicone to help seal it.
I then reassembled using the original parts. Took it for a test drive for 10 mins, shut the car off and on a couple times.
No issues so far. Might be too soon.
