Engine replacement help (not much car knowledge)

Hi everyone! I have a very limited knowledge of cars so I will explain the best I can. I bought a used 07 civic with 85k mikes on it and found out that the block is cracked and after weighting my options I feel like my best bet is to just buy and engine and have a shop put it in. Now several mechanics I've spoken to have said that this year of civic is notorious for engine block cracks. So my concern is that if I get another 07 civic engine from a junkyard or online I might get one from the same batch of engines that have the cracking problems. I have seen several engine on ebay that say "engine for 06-11 civic". Do all these years have the same engine and will it just drop straight in when being replaced? Also, I have the lx model and that doesnt come with a vtec so does that mean a vtec would not fit in my lx? Thanks for any help you guys can offer!

Moved to cracked block section.
09 seen to be last year that someone have reported cracked block, so 10-11 so far seen clean.

VTEC will require the ECU, which is also linked to the key, so it will require a lot more work. Recommend using a non-VTEC engine

Ok great and do you know if I did get a 2010 engine if it would just drop right in or if the shop would need to do a bunch of work to get the attachment points to align?

They are the same car generation, so should not be that much different
