Hello how's it going hopefully better then my current predicament, so I have a 2006 Honda Civic and I am completely locked out of the car. I tried unlocking it with the key fob only to see a red flash on the key and nothing. I then tried unlocking the door manually with the key and still nothing. I even tried opening the trunk for good measure but still nothing. I only have this single key for the car but it makes no sense to me why I can't at least open it with the key manually... not really sure what to do. Hoping to get some advice on figuring out what may be the cause of the problem.
Did that key ever manually unlock anything on the car? (Doors, trunk)
Hey Colin, I'll be totally honest I just bought the car a couple weeks ago and never tried opening any of the doors manually until now. The key works when I put it into the ignition and start the car so it makes no sense why it won't work to open the door or trunk.
Does that one have the built-in fob to the key or are they two separate items? It could be that the ignition cylinder’s been changed at some point. I think that typically happens in the event that the car was a theft recovery. It may be a bit of an extreme idea but it doesn’t seem like you know much about the history of it.
It has the key built into the FOB, also an update this morning I tried opening the car again and it worked! With only the fob. I've tried manually opening the doors with the key and it didn't work. The car also started fine BUT I did notice the radio flashed the anti theft button and I had to put in the radio code. The car stays outside do you think someone actually tried breaking in? I'm going to have to look into seeing why I can't manually open the doors with the key incase the fob decides to act up again its really weird.

Like Chezboat said the car may have been stolen and they changed the ignition cylinder only

All hints point towards the ignition having been changed before I took ownership. I know the car has a salvage title due to a minor front end hit but I personally have no idea how that would result in needing a new ignition. As for the reason why the actual fob wasn't working it looks like the battery is due soon for a replacement after getting it tested this morning. My mistake for not checking if the key worked manually when I purchased the car but who could have guessed I was too focused at the time checking for anything major due to it's salvage history. I of course did a background check and nothing pointed towards it having a stolen history but who knows the DMV sent me a title so the purchase was legit. Car runs and feels great this is just the only issue, a really weird issue to be sure. I appreciate everyone's responses it was loads of help take care.
