Whats up yall?!? Nothin much on this end...just thought I'd let u guys in on some info.
I am going to get a 60,000 mile tune-up on my engine kuz my tranny is slipping, etc.
I tell the tech at Honda (Mistlin Honda in Modesto) that I have DENSO Iridiums in my car and he tells me that they are NOT good for our cars and that they will cause damage to the HEAD. That was major news to me especially after reading all the opinons and BS on the boards.
His name is Randy and has been working there for 15 years, I know him pretty good. Anyways for those who don't know and for those who know what a 60,000 mile tune-up consists of, here is the breakdown.
• Change oil and filter
• Inspect all fluid levels (including battery water)
• Inspect exhaust system
• Inspect antifreeze
• Inspect air filter condition
• Inspect belts and hoses
• Inspect windshield wiper condition and operation
• Change transmission fluid
• Inspect all lights
• Adjust valve clearance
• Replace gaskets as necessary
• Rotate and balance tires
• Inspect brake condition (front & rear)
• Adjust rear brakes (if applicable)
• Inspect parking brake condition
• Inspect brake lines
• Replace brake fluid (vehicles equipped with ABS additional)
• Inspect suspension and undercarriage
• Inspect steering linkage and power steering system
• Inspect tires and set pressures to specifications
• Perform engine tune-up
• Replace spark plugs, fuel filter (cap and rotor if applicable)
• Check compression
• Set engine timing and idle speed to factory specs
• Inspect all fuel lines (replace fuel filter if applicable)
• Check and record emissions
• Adjust clutch (if applicable) check operation
• Road test vehicle for proper operation
• Check operation of accessories
The only thing I am wondering is if they go to set the engine timing back to factory specs, then how will they go about doing that if I have the AEM Adjustable Time Gear? I'd figure I just set it back to 0, but then they are going to tighten the tension on the belts...what do I do? Well, I am getting this all done next Thursday on June 12th and will report back with information on how well my car performs after such a tune-up.
By the way it is costing me $350, my momma is payin' for it
The only news I have for yall that worried me was the DENSO Iridium plugs damaging the head in the future. So they are going to plug me back in with NGK Platinums (those are good too!)
Some of you have not reached 60,000 miles yet so that is why I post this. Opinons are always welcome!

oh well, imma ride it till the wheels fall off!
I thought the stock platinum spark plugs were good until 100k miles ... according to our manuals for severe conditions.
Everything else sounds about right though. Although I'm always wondering about the fuel filter in our cars, since our manuals don't mention it at all.

I think dude at Honda was tryin to BS wit me...how the hell can a spark plug mess with the head of the car? I went to my local shop (Performance Autoworx) yesterday and asked them and they said that everyone was usin' DENSO's Irid'z and that the guy at Honda was only tryin to get me to use stock honda components.
SO now instead of taking my car to Mistlin Honda in Modesto to get a tune-up, I'm having Performance Autoworx do my Tune-UP for me...since they are the Japanese Tech Headz!!

My 2001 LX is at 66,000+ miles and shows no signs of needing any tune up- that is plugs , valve adjustments. Most of the visual checks mentioned above are something anyone can do themselves and are not what are considered tune-up procedures - just routine preventative maintenance.

Denso Iridiums don't damage our heads. That's bs....
They even come stock in many cars (such as IS300). Yes diff. engine and company, but just trying to use a reference.
