running rich?

Could someone explain to me what running rich means? I had been noticing this smell lately while driving and my BF mentioned that it could be running rich when I drove him to work this morning. I know it has something to do with fuel, but I didn't have time to ask him what that ment.

Running rich is when your fuel system is dumping in more fuel then is needed. Sometimes switching brands and using a lower octane rating can help. If your fuel economy is the same as its always been, I wouldnt worry about it to much. If you run too long rich, you might foul a spark plug and also potentially damage the cat converter over a long period of time.

If you are indeed running rich it could be due to an old or defective oxygen (o2) sensor.

That would suck. This car is only 2 months old and it's already been back to the dealership twice (I had a hole in the high pressure line of the power steering and then my seat belt wouldn't buckle) Warrenties are a good thing right now. I tried to tell them they needed to just give me a new car, but all I get was a free lube and oil! Does anyone know where I can find a good A/F gauge? There are so many sites that have them, any reccomendations?
