Shifting into first gear
I've noticed if i am going faster then 20mph in my 03 Civic EX 5-speed there is somewhat of a locking mechinisam that doesnt let me go into first gear. I know i wouldnt want to anyways but whats the deal with that? and does it exist for say second gear?

Yes there is a lock for first gear. It is to prevent you from shifting into first if you are going fast. It is a simple fix so that people don't kill their engines. No there is no lock for second tho I notice that sometimes it is difficult to get it in if you are going fast, but then again why would you want to.

This has been discuessed before. If you must enter 1st, and youre below 30 MPH, hold the clutch down and rev the car until the gate opens. Then release the clutch and youre in, but it's gonna be a rocky engagement.

If you want to get into 1st above 20, then you're going to have to double clutch, plus put a lot of wear on your synchros, as for 2nd, don't shift into it unless your going under 45, otherwise, it's a lot of unecessary wear.
