VEHICLE GAS OCTANE?
I HAVE BEEN TOLD BY MY FRIENDS THAT WHEN PURCHASING YOUR GAS YOU SHOULD USE SPEND THE EXTRA MONEY AND GET THE HIGHER OCTANE. I BELIEVE THERE IS 94, 96, AND 98 OCTANE. I DO KNOW THE NAME =) (REGUALR, PREMIUM, AND SUPER PREMIUM). SO ANY HOW, IVE BEEN TOLD THE HIGH OCTANE MAKES YOUR CARS FUEL INJECTORS RUN CLEANER. SHOULD I BE GETTING 98 OCTANE ALL THE TIME? IF YOU CAN ANSWER THANKS! GAS PRICES SUCK OUT HERE IN AZ RIGHT NOW, $2.28 A GALLON!!!!
Using higher octane on a stock engine designed for 87..
1) does not clean your injectors.
2) does not give you more power.
3) does not give you better gas milage
4) wastes your money
5) gives you a sense of false security.
6) is only used when you have abnormal knock/ping (see dealer first)
... if you searched there's a LONG thread about this already.

Use whatever that runs good in your car. Cause not everyone's car is the same. For example, I did a test on Full tank for 87. The result came I needed to fill gas more often than using 89. However, by using 91, I don't see a difference between 89 and 91 besides costing me more money for 91. So in conclusion, I choose 89 as my car preference.

first off STOP USING CAPS seems like your yellin gor somthing. i have never heard of 98, thats amazing, most we have around here is 92 and only at some stations that cost more. my friend told me he got 92.5 once tho. I do use the higest octane i can get, im not really sure why tho. i guess way i figure, octane bosters add octane and supposedly power, so more octane should be slightly better. ?
your right. i just went to the gas pump and its 87, 89 and 91 octane. from what im hearing 87 against 91 has no different effect on a civic.I use to have a 2001 Chevy Camero SS and I was told at all times to use 91 octane. why is that? I dont have a problem using the higher or the lower in my civic, i just want to know if its a waste of money. From waht i hear it is. I also hear that putting a higher octane in a 4 banger is hard on the car!!!! Any feedback on that?

for the extra dollar or two I run mid-grade(89). You should really only need to run high octane fuel if your car maker requires it or for knocking. I heard that running higher octane fuel can actually be bad for your catalytic converter since it doesnt burn away as completely as lower octane. Dunno...
the knock sensors in EX and VTi models adjusts to what octane you are using. it alters the ignition timing to prevent knocking. higher octane also wears your spark plugs faster. so i settle for 91

Save your money and use 87 octane. No point to use anything higher since it just a Civic.
Damn I didn't know there was any 98 octane... highest I've seen is 93..
