Original transmission but motor swapped. Will this cause problems?
Original transmission but motor swapped. Will this cause problems?
I know this is not about the 7th gen. civic, but I wasn't getting any feedback in the previous gen civic section. Besides, this should pertain to any year. I just purchased a '96 Civic with what I'm told is a '95 EX engine. The transmission is from the '96 HX. The car has the strangest gear ratio I have ever seen where 3rd goes to 80 mph and THEN hits V-tec. The car does not accelerate very quickly and I am just curious as to if it could be caused by the transmission being for a different engine? If so, would getting the correct transmission for the motor correct this? Any help on this would be appreciated. Thank you.
The gearing in the HX tranny is more for fuel efficiency than the EX, so most likely it's your problem. Although both motors have Vtec, they also have different gearing for different needs....just find an EX tranny and you should be fine.
