Engine Ticking

I've read all the comments in here and in Tech, but nobody seems to have solved the problem. Seems that several of us have a ticking sound coming from the engine bay. At idle mine is very audible. When driving along side a curb or building the sound is also very noticable since it has something to bounce back off of. It's a constant Tick Tick Tick Tick Tick Tick....faster or slower with RPMs

I've heard valve stems, push rods, selanoids etc. Anyone know for sure what it is. Anybody actually have this fixed? What did they do?

Thanks

the heads in our cars have a slight tick to them! it is the valves fully extending and something with vtec. But at the same time i dont think thats you deal! when your car is parked and not moving is the sound the same as the sound you here next to a curb? I think you are describing 2 differnt sounds!

I've read in one of the forums here that it could be just the fuel injectors opening and closing. I wouldnt worry about it to much unless it really sounds abnormal.

It's the fuel injectors opening and closing... every car does it, its just that ours idle so quiet you can hear them... Nothing to worry about.

i would think that either its what boilermaker said or the spark plugs firing. also maybe you catback could be missing a bolt causing a ticking in the exhaust.

I have noticed a slightly similar sound coming from my engine when the car is parked next to a wall. But it is a normal honda sound. Like stated above it is just the valves doing their job. However mine is not noticable or loud enough to bother me. Therefore I am assuming you must be talking about something else.

Your injectors shouldn't be audible with or without the hood open. You need to put a screwdriver up to the injector and the other end to your ear to hear them, or a stethoscope.

I'm gonna add my feedback here too. I hear my valves also. I know its a Honda thing to hear the valves, but mine have been getting slowly louder. In the mailers from the dealers, they recommend a valve clearance adjustment every 15k miles. My car has almost 25k. Its not really bad yet, but since its under warranty I'm gonna take it into the dealer and have them adjusted and see what happens. It kinda sucks because the advertising says 110k with no tune up. Well, adjusting the valves seems like a tune up to me. And every 15k miles!!! My sister has an LX 6th gen and that engine doesn't have the same tick mine does. I dunno, anyone else noticing this too?

I'm gonna take it in anyway and see how it sounds after the valve adjustment - the dealer said it was free so why not...
