battery dying!?

hi, i drive a 2001 civic si (ex) and lately my battery is dying... for example, i'm at the mcdonalds drive thru and i've been just sitting there in the car while it's on waiting for my food. i was waiting for like 5 mins. after i picked up the food and drive away. as i start drive away i stalled the car and i tried starting again, but it won't start... so i had to get someone to jump the car for me... the car's been doing this a lot lately....

so i dont know what's wrong with the car... is it not charging correctly? is it my battery? i went to my honda dealer for my tune up, i told them my problem... i asked them if it could be my alternator or battery... they said if it was my alternator, then a light in my dashboard would light up. but i never saw any light, so i guess that couldn't be the problem... they told me what they can do is do a battery check and that would cost me like 80 bucks! i said forget it, cause i can get a new battery for that price... so i just want to know if it's my car or the battery or anything else... thanks for the replies in advance!!!

Looks like your past the battery warranty period if your car is an 01, so that's not an option. Second thing to keep in mind is that the battery that comes with our cars absolutely sucks.

$80 to check your battery? Holy ****! That's nuts. You can take your car to Autozone or somewhere like that, and they will check your battery for free.

haha, i know... for $80, i can just buy a new battery... that's why i came on here to see if it's the battery or something else... cause i dont want to buy a new one if i dont have to... but it's weird though... even though my car is on, should it be charging still? cause all i did was sit there for like 5 mins and then stalled the car and the batter was dead already!

but i guess i can go somewhere else to get my battery checked... thanks!

Yeah, my battery died after about 3 months. Luckily the dealership was giving free check ups and got the battery replaced under warrenty.

Only problem with that is there is no cap and rotor used in our cars, the spark and majority of engine timing is computer controlled. Sounds like you might either have a bad battery(wont take a charge, go to Autozone for testing) a loose altenator belt or evena bad altenator. Those are the common things that go wrong when your car doesnt start aside from it being a starter/solenoid problem or other electrical issue.

well i asked my honda dealer about it... i asked them if it was my alternator, and they said a light should show up on my dash board if there's anything wrong... but there's nothing...

yea, i guess the best way is to just get them to check it out... whatever it is, it should be covered under warranty... if it's the battery, then i'll just buy a new one... thanks!!

well i found out the problem to my car... the battery just died... that's weird!! i only owned the car for like a year and a half and the battery died already!! i guess the factory battery sucks!! well anyways, i went back to the dealer and told them my problem and they did a bunch of test to see what's wrong and they found out it was the battery... so they just replaced it for free under warranty and that was it!

Did you play your radio alot with the car off. If so, this may have been the problem.

Did you have to pay a "pro rated" cost on the battery? Here in Florida you're lucky if a battery lasts more than a couple of years, because of the high heat. Also your alternator could have a problem without the light coming on, so what the dealer told is not correct.

really? the car shut off? I thought the engine should be charging the battery when the car is running.

Did you have trouble starting the car with the old/broken battery?

Im also having a probnlem with my car, After car is left overnight, then started the next morning, first 30 minutes of driving has the idle very unstable, at neutral rpm drops to as low as 500. Can it be the battery?

I think we have the same prob. the battery
