Windshield rock chip

So im driving down the freeway when out of nowhere it sounded like someone shot a BBgun and next thing I see is a damn chip on the lower drivers side. Should I do anything...how much is it to repair something this small or is it something I can do myself?

It really depends on how serious the chip is, if its small and out of your line of sight and you see no cracks spuring from it I won't worry about it. As long as its small don't worry about it, I'm talking smaller than a Pee, there are glass places that can repair small chips, I wouldn't have the whole windshield replaced because it never seems like anyone out there can do a clean job anymore. I got a chip the same way a couple of months ago, but it was on the lower right side. It pissed me off but it hasn't caused any problems.

I've been told that if it's really small and not in your field of vision and you don't want to have the windshield removed, that clear nail polish will help keep the chip from spreading into a crack. Maybe the best thing though is to take it to an auto glass place for advice.

heh i have 4 rock chip...1 isn't really a rock chip...more like a big fat crack (6-8 inches long lower left area) but i'm gonna get it replace when the season changes cuz it tends to get bigger and bigger due to change in weather.

Definitely check with your insurance...it may seem free, just make sure about a deductible as wel....

i've had my windshield replaced several times. if you do get it replaced, make sure they get an OEM windshield. the place i used did a great job, but they tried using their off brand glass and everything i saw was distorted to the point of giving me a head ache. the install was great though, you'd never be able to tell it was replaced.

I get that pratically everyday. All the damn gravel trucks throw out tons of rocks and it seems like the Highway Patrol doesn't care. I've pretty much given up because I'd have to replace the windshield every month.

You can go to a windshield repair company where the clean out the chip and fill it with an epoxy. If they do a good job, it will just look like a little water drop and stop the cracking. I did that when I got the first two little chips but now whatever. I've been lucky enough not to get any in the driver vision.
