"POPPING" out of gear
Well heres the problem. When i shift from 1st to 2nd at a low RPM, my shifter frequently pops back into neutral. I'd have to force it into 2nd and like drop the clutch to make it stick. Then i got a DC sports short shifter adapter and it stopped for a while, but then it soon came back and started to occur more often. I don't know if it's either my driving, or something is wrong with the gearbox. Also, when i start my car in 2nd, it sometimes grinds because its not all the way in gear, where other manual cars I've driven dont have the same problem. I took it to the dealer and took off the short shifter, but it didn't seem to popp out when i was trying to imitate the "popp out" to the technician. Anyone have a problem similar to this?
the only thing i could think of is a bent shift fork. shift fork is a mechanism that let you change gear inside the gear box. do you rest your hand on the shifter while you drive? cause only way to bent shift fork is put consistant pressure on the shifter.
Actually what is wrong with the tranny is that the shift fork for one and two and four and five need to be replaced as well as gears one, two and five. This was a very common problem for the 7th gen Vic. Take it to the dealership and tell them to look up TSB#01-081
in a transmission there's only one clutch fork and i guess those fork's are made to hold lots of pressure, there's no way that the clutch fork could bend, you might want to check your clutch cables because its the only device that moves your gears by the use of your stick shift

If you have a short shifter whether it caused the problem or not they will not cover the problem under warrenty because you chose to modify it...and if your vin doesn't fall under their list then fight them on it......use that TSB as leverage
Mine does this when putting it into reverse. It's the stock shifter/trans. the dealer couldnt get it to "duplicate problem at this time" yet it does it nearly every time when me or my wife drive it.
Well did you drive the car and dupilicate the problem for them.....you can make the go for a ride with you and show them the problem if they can't duplicate it......
What they will most likely do and probably the reason your car does it in reverse is that they will replace the shift forks for 1,2, 5 and reverse if I remember correctly...it has been a VERY long time since I had to deal with this so not positive on that.....

Re: "POPPING" out of gear
Exactly the same thing was happening to me. If its not repeating yet, just wait because it will get worse and do it much more often.
My dealer fixed it while under warranty. The work order says:
Defective shifter bushing
Replace shifter bushings
Part# 54350-SF1-013

Re: "POPPING" out of gear
i have never had a problem with it poping out of gear however reverse NEVER goes into gear. i have to pullon it with both hands and then it goes in. and even then sometimes popes out.
i wana try a manual LX tranny in my EX. suposily shorter 1st and taller 5th. best of both worlds (better burnouts
and better highway MPG
