Oil in air element casing???Need answers

Ok so for about the past week my maintence required light has been blinking for about 10-15 seconds when I start up the car. Then I have noticed that my engine is making a whinny noise after a rev. As I began to check out the car I noticed in the casing above the throttle body there was a little oil. Is this normal? As far as I know I have never noticed it before, it is coming out the tube entering from the bottom(Looking down at it from the frot of the car) where a rubber tube enters. Thats my beef with the civi so far, but if anyone has any info it would be greatly appreciated. I am taking my civi to the shop sometime this week.

You have too much crankcase pressure resulting in oil being forced up into the breather hose and into the air filter housing. This could be caused by many things however I would suspect a bad PCV valve or clogged PCV hose resulting in excessive positive pressure. Have your PCV valve checked.

I don't believe we have a PCV valve. I checked a few parts stores and the 2002 guide always says "N/R (Not Required)".

Yep, we have them. Every auto maker is required to have a PCV system to be emissions compliant. Many part stores do not have everything listed yet for the 2001 and newer cars so it probably was listed under "not required".

Not totally sure about the PCV system on the new Civic...but I don't think there is a PCV valve. I can't find one anywhere...even through Honda. There may be some new system they devised for the new Civic.

It's right behind the oil cap filler (page 11-162 on the service manual for the 2001 civics). Not sure why you can't find it through Honda. They definitely have it, check out this site -- http://www.hondaautomotiveparts.com/auto/jsp/mws/prddisplay.jsp?inputstate=5&catcgry1=Civic&catcgry 2=2001&catcgry3=2DR+DX&catcgry4=KL5MT&catcgry5=BRE ATHER+TUBE

Sneaky little bastards. I'll have to check tomorrow to see if I can find it again. All my other cars it was so easy to find...maybe I'm going blind or something.

Yeah, they really changed the design from the previous Civics -- it's definitely not as visible.
