Grinding gears with clutch in
ive had a problem with the gears grinding when i put the car back into first when the clutch is pushed all the way in. its only happened when the car is still rolling. i didnt think too much of it at first beause this is the first car ive driven thats a stick, but my friend was driving it yesterday and the same thing happened to him. is there something wrong with my transmission????

How fast are you rolling when you put it into 1st?
I've never ground when putting it into first with the clutch in, but it is tough to put into gear while rolling in between 10-20 mph. Are you forcing it into the gear?

Sounds like the tranny is trying to lock you out if you ask me. If you are already rolling you should be going to 2nd anyway. First is strictly to get the car moving. Once you're moving, you shouldn't go back to first.
i never get that when going into 1st, but if i'm rolling backwards, and shift into reverse, i get a gear grind. i have to brake to a complete stop, then shift into reverse to not get a grind. i dont know why it would grind if i'm already rolling backwards in the first place, but oh well...

Mine does it after it has been sitting out in the cold garage all night...after a few shifts its better...you have to watch too, it is quite possible you are going to fast to downshift to a gear, hence the reason you are locked out or grinding gears...

Gears don;t grind..their all stationary.. it's the dog teeth that grind.. keep note that first gear is not syncro meshed...to properly shift into first with the car rolling you must double clutch.. This gets the transmittion turning at the same speed as the engine for a moment..
