I had somethin like that before but the car wouldnt turn over at all. But it was last winter. I think it was the starter it was like to cold, but I poped the hood and then droped it then it started up. It always happened in the winter. And the clutch when its worn out it wont realy move or accelarate with out having it start with high RPMs.

how much gas was in the car? because if you have a almost empty tank, it takes longer for the car to pressuize the gas...

I've noticed this being true too. if you were low on gas, this could have caused your problem...
