Engine Ticking?

I have a 2002 ex manual and to start off a while back i added an OBX muffler well to get it on the pipe the guy tapped it on with a rubber mallot. WEll soon after that i realized my engine was making a ticking sound when i accelerated. It sounded like exhaust gasses escaping so i figured maybe he loosened the header. But it didnt really sound like it was coming from the front where the header is. Plus i had the header replaced wit a DC header.

So i took it to the dealership and they said it was a purge selanoid. They replaced it and it still makes that sound. It isnt really noticable when i drive untill i pull along something to bounce the sound back into the car. It speeds up according to my rpms so i'm 100% positive that it has to do with the engine not drivetrain. But it sounds like it's coming from the rear of my engine toward the windshield....????

Any help

Mine does that too, and I have a DC Sports TCS on it...I think its pretty much due to normal idling, I have heard other 7thgens, and they sound the same way...I agree though, its weird and sometimes, downright annoying...

Do our cars have PCV valves? Those little buggers tick pretty loud and increase with RPMs. Maybe that's it.

Mine does that too, but continues to tick for about a minute after the car is turned off. BTW, mine is stock.

It cant be the same thing as yours then because mine is like an exhaust gas leak or something. It speeds up when the revs go up. It's really noticeable in like the dirve thru at restaurants and stuff because i'm so close the the wall and the sound bounces back

Exhaust leaks can be tricky to locate because the sound travels, the best way to find it is to have the car put up on a lift while the car is running. Have a tech or your self use a piece of rubber hose, and put it up to your ear, or use a Stethoscope, to pin point the ticking noise. After Market headers can leak without the proper gasket installation, and unless the muffler isn't correctly installed it could also be leaking, even if you had to pound it on. I use to work at a muffler shop many years ago and that the best way to locate any noise even if its not the exhaust.
