Strange Problem
Strange Problem
So I have a little problem...more of an annoyance than anything else, but maybe it's something big. I have a 2k1 HX Coupe with a CVT and AT that I got back in October of last year. It has about 13k miles on it and otherwise is in good shape. However, occationally, when I start my car in the morning to go to work, or any other time when it hasn't been used for over 12 hours, the engine cuts out after a few seconds. Like, the car will start, everything comes on, and the engine sounds like it revs up a little bit, then sputters out. I don't know what can be causing it. It never does it twice though - if I turn off the engine and start the car again, it works just fine. I don't know if this is an issue with the CVT or what. I don't really like the CVT much anyway, aside from the gas milage. It has a slow reaction time and I end up spinning my wheels alot if I race off the line. Anyways, at first I thought it was clogged fuel injectors, because admittedly I do run on empty more than I'd like. But, I've been using a bottle of STP every other time I fill up, and yet I still have the problem once in a while.
Anyways, any thoughts or ideas? I suppose I could take it to the dealership, but I wanted to get an idea of what it might be before I did. Thanks!

take it to the dealer and explain EXACTLY what the car is doing, what is a cvt??.a civic is not a drag car material and dont expect it to me right just now..save ur money on STP..here is the answer in a brutal fashion....."take it to the dealer and dont take no sh**,,"dont do anymore drag race(acceleration contest).heehee...P.S..the amount of gas in ur tank makes no different and not the cause for sputter.thats what fuel injection was really made for.

If you run your gas tank extremely loww all the time it is possible to get air in the fuel line, but that normally only causes it to sputter a little until the air has passed, but shouldn't stall it. Running the tank really low might also damage your fuel pump. I dought its your problem though, you probably have a clogged fuel filter from running the tank low all the time, because the contaminates don't get deluted. STP is a BIG waste of money, the stuff does no good, and won't help your problem. Have the dealer check your fuel pressure when you take it in.
