Installing Brakes ? ?
Okay, I've read and printed out the DYI for installing new brake pads. I've managed to put the front side of my car on stands and removed the tires. I have also removed the caliper from the rotor. I went to the parts store and gave them all the info they needed so they can sell me the pads that I need. I get home and install the pads, but there is not enough space to place the caliper back on the rotor. I thought the parts store might have made a mistake and gave me the wrong pads. Anyhow, I call them to verify the part number and it does match up. I then went to another parts store and took a look at theirs and it was the same thickness (the pads). The guy at the parts store mentioned something about pushing the piston all the way in so that it is flush on the caliper. I tried to push it in, but is just wouldn't move anymore. Is there a trick to pushing the piston in????? How thick should the pad be when purchased new?? I am about to break these brakes on someones head ! ! ??! !!!!!

You have to push the caliper piston in.
1.) Remove the cover for the brake fluid on the brake fluid resevoir. We don't want to have a back lash of pressure.
2.) Get a a C-Clamp and a a pice of 1 inch to 2 inch thick piece of wood about 3 to 4 inches long. Look for some scrap wood.
3.) Place the wood over the calipers and use the C-Clamp to push the pistons back in. The tounge of the clamp should be place on the wood and the thread part that has the metal button should be on the body of the calipers.
4.) Simply start to screw and watch the pistons go in.
5.) Or just go to any auto store and purchase a caliper press. They cost about $6.00.
6.) Remember to place the fluid cap back on the reservoir and make sure all bolts are tightened. Brakes are for safety make sure they work.
7.) When you get in your car, do not turn it on. Pump the brakes about 10 times. This will bring up the pressure in the braking system.
8.) Now you can drive.
Hopes this helps...
