jkim1978 thats a good idea, i think everyone that had this problem is as pissed off as u r. if u need any help just just tell me. i hate problem too. i went to the dealer and the rep. was rude. he kept on starting the car and shuting it off just to test it out. which probably put a strain on the starter cause he did it several times constantly. well reply to this post and tell me whats going on.

I had the exact same thing happen to me this morning. Took me 20min to get the car to start... and I had about 17L of fuel left too.

Car just kept turning over, not even sounding like it was going to start at all.
Calling Honda tomorrow.

well.... i called the honda customer service.. and directed them to this link.. and the person i talked to read the posts from this thread.... i doubt she'll do anything about it... but i told her about all the civic owners who have this problems concerns.... but she said something like 30 cars or so... the number of peeps that posted about this problem... is a not a significant number or something like that... anyways... i changed my key with my spare key.. and i haven't had a problem yet..... so i suggests you guys try that... changing keys that is...

I had this problem a few nights ago. My wife came to pick me up from the bar (got a little toasty, heh) and she decided to drive mine home. The car wouldn't start for like 30 seconds or so.

The little green key was flashing the whole time as she tried to get the car to start. Then, I thought about my 00 accord that did the same thing once or twice. I think it has something to do with that chip in the key.

They say metal objects and such in the area of the key can affect the car's reading of the chip or something.

If this happens, I would try taking the key out and put it back in or wiggle it around or something. I really do think this is part of the problem. As far as I know, my 00 accord v6 didn't have a returnless fuel system so...

It has been several weeks of using my other key. The problem is gone!!! At least for now. I really think it is the immobilizer in the car caused by a bad key. I'm going to try the bad key again and see if the problem comes back....then I'll know for sure if it is the key

yah...i think it was the immobilizer and the bad key.... so i was kinda implying the fact that the key was bad to the person i talked to.. the honda support.. and was kinda leaning toward the fact that i should get another key for free... but i don't think she got it... cause to make a copy for our keys... it cost like 40 buck.... that's basically rape.. if you ask me.... i think honda should replace or make another key for free.. since the problem was out of our hands.. but i doubt they'd go for that...

hmmm....i have a 3.5week old 02 SiG and today, it took like 10s of cranking to get the engine started...

usually it starts very quickly....

i had 3/4 tank of gas and the engine was kinda cold...

the weather was dry today after 2 days of non stop heavy showers....

the sun was out and really warmed things up...when i first got into the car, it was so warm and humid inside that the air is barely breathable..

anyone think the airbox or engine had too much moisture? the inside of the car was extremely humid...

hey, same problem here, 2002 acura el...

i had an exam today, and the stupid car woudldn't start, luckily there were other cars at my house or else i wouldve been screwed. i'd probably have a hard time explaining how my 5 month old car can start 100 times in a row, but won't start whenever it doens't feel like it.

this is very frustrating and as the other person mentioned embarassing!!

it feels like i wasted a whole shitload of of money..

f**k!

Did you try your other set of keys or try taking it off the key ring? If you have an aut tranny, try starting it up in the NEUTRAL position and seeif that makes any difference. If it does, perhaps you have a marginal park/neutral switch. If you have a manual tranny, make sure the clutch isnt being blocked by the floormat, sounds silly but it happens. Also try letting the fuel system pressurize up for a few seconds before starting and see if that helps. I turn my key to the on position until the 'bongs' stop as I'm putting on my seat belt.

I guess it depends on whats on the key ring. Some peeps hang all kinds of crap off their key rings, not knowing that some stuff might interfere with the Immobilzer chip inside the key.
