2002 LX 5 speed manual problem

I have a 2002 LX 5 speed and i just recently gotten a problem with my tranny. The shifter doesn't move as smooth in neutral anymore and sometimes it gets stuck. Also when i try to shift into reverse, its so hard to. I have to put so much force to shift into reverse. I have no idea whats wrong, anyone have any ideas?

thanks in advance

Yea. Thats happened to me a couple times. Just put your car in Neutral, leave it there for a few seconds or so, then trying throwing it into Reverse again. Don't do it fast or anything, just do it at a moderate speed. Thats what I do. My freind has the same problem with his Cavalier. What he does is put it in first, then second, then goes over to reverse...weird...but it seems to work hehehehe.

This is part of the bushing problem which is well covered in this forum.

Take your car to Honda there is a TSB that covers the issue.

Please do a search for car comming poping out of second gear or problem / trouble shifting from 1 to 2 secon gear etc....

But they're not talking about 2nd gear problems. They're talking about problems with shifting into reverse, which is very common on all 5-speed cars, not just ours. I had a 91 Corolla SR5 with the exact same shifting into reverse problem. And believe me, the clutch and shifter on that car was way inferior to what I have now.

If it seems like the shifter won't go into reverse on the first try, do NOT try to slam it in ! Push it back into neutral and pump the clutch once or twice, and then try shifting again... that should always work.

Put the clutch in, shift into first, then move the shifter to reverse. Works every time for me.

on my 2001 (which came out of second) reverse was also a motherf'r to engage, you had to JAM it in reverse even if you let it roll, and the tranny always made a racket when you did it. I beleive it was the same bushing problem that was holding the linkage out of tolerance....

you should take it to honda and get the fix, go from there...
