Drivers' Side Windshield Wiper Hits A-Piller

Does anyone else have this problem. It moves too far to the left (looking out of the windshield) and makes a thwap sound as it hits the a-piller. Anyone know what I should do to fix this? If it the mounts? Is it the motor itself? Maybe it's electrical? How does the windshield wiper mechanism work? What makes it turn back the other way? Whatever it is, that's what's messed up. Don't even mention a dealer!!!

Same thing happened once on my friend's rental Corolla. Solution that worked perfectly well? Turned on the wipers, then shut the key off when they were almost all the way up. Then, took the driver's wiper and pulled it slightly towards the passenger side. Problem solved. Just don't pull too hard in case our cars weren't meant to be adjusted this way!

That might work, but it doesn't solve the original problem. Anyone else know what the root of the problem is?

Have you tried taking the wiper arm off the drive splines, then putting the arm back so it's a little lower at the "park" position. err, that's not very clear is it?

um, try taking the wiper arm off the wiper drive shaft and replacing it back onto the drive shaft so that it is one spline counter-clockwise (as seen from the outside of the car.

Problem solved! It wasn't that they were crooked or anything. They were reversed! The one for the passenger's side was and the driver's side and vice versa. The stupid bodyshop which fixed my car must have done this. This just confirms my belief that they're a bunch of retards!

Bodyshops always seem to mess things up. Just like when my friend Nick helped me clear my lights, he found that they used the wrong pins in the bumper. I don't even wanna know what else they did wrong...

Yeah, I could list all of the things that I found wrong with the car when got it back, but I don't want to remind myself. I didn't realize that they were backwards because I didn't think that they had to take them off when doing the repairs. Plus I didn't think they would be stupid enough to put them on backwards!
