i have a 01 lx sedan all stock xcpt the stereo. I have a problem with the brakes. when i brake at any speed the pedal vibrates like my rotars are warped. i sold my GM saturn crap car cause of its bad rotor design. NOT again.....ARGGGhhh

anyone else have this prob?

brake pads are won. try replaceing them. if that doesnt work just get some brembo crossdrilled replacements.

try taking it to honda...and just tell em that the pedal is vibrating when you brake...they might do it under warrenty...

Not flaming you here, but you've had this problem before. It sounds like the brake rotors are warped, and the only way to warp rotors is to over heat them. Do you brake hard though corners or ride the brake when coming up to a stop light? You also have 22,000 miles on the car, you might need new brake pads and the rotors turned on a lathe. You can't judge brake life by milage, it really depends on how and where you drive. My wifes old Mazda went 90,000 miles before needing brakes because she drove the highway a lot. Just my 2¢

It's your driving style not the car thats killing the brakes.....

1. you use them too hard.
2. you use them too much (i.e. you ride peoples A$$e$ and have to hit them all the time)
3. you drag the car down from 125-40 MPH on a regular basis.
4. you ride the brakes.
5. some combination.

also if you stopped real hard several times from a high speed and then hit a puddle that will do it every time.

Whichever one of thoes you are doing, figue it out and stop doing it.

To fix the problem you will need to do pads and rotors, at a dealer it will cost 300-450 bucks.

You guys are not being fair. There are ways to overuse brakes and it is not a result of abusing them. If you drive a car and sit in traffic all day during rush hour commutes like a majority of americans due your brakes and/or rotors will go quickly as well. Also, people who drive automatic trannies are likely to use their brakes more often. You have no choice, engine braking doesn't work with downshifting like in a manual transmission. Brake use is as much a result of environment and other drivers as it is the driver themself.

But then, there are people who drive like idiots like you mentioned.

Also, read any review of this car in the major automobile magazines and you'll notice they all complain about the brakes being poor. One area HONDA CIVIC's are not a leader in is Braking Distance.

Sitting in traffic is not going to heat up the brakes, stop and go driving will not hurt brake pads or rotors. The only way to warp rotors is to "Over Heat" them, period. My rotors were warped at 5,000 miles. I had the dealership regrind them for me and it did not solve the problem. I told them that the next day. They told me once again I didn't know how to drive and that was why the rotors were warped. There are service bullitins on the sh!tty brakes. Basically this is what it will boil down to for you. Brakes are not covered under warrenty. They are not covered under the bumper to bumper warrenty which still blows my mind. Anyhow Honda has chosen to use REALLY soft brakes, therefore causing premature wear. Your best bet is to take it into Honda and tell them they need to regrind them for you( this will buy you a little more time and get a little more life out of your brakes for you). They say they will do it once as a courtesy and then you are on your own. Either way be happy yours lasted to 22,000 miles.

Mileage aside, the warped rotor issue just seems to be a far too common complaint on this car. The fact that brakes are not covered under warranty alone raises some eyebrows. CIVIC owners seem unsatisfied with their cars presently and I don't seem them very high on the "customer satisfaction lists.

Where's the CIVIC?.....Beaten by a Beetle!!??

No blessing involved. IF they were covered under warrenty it would be under the bumper to bumper and if I remember correctly that warrenty expires before 20,000 miles. Therefore your brakes would no longer be covered. If I were you I would go and raise some hell. MAKE them replace them for you. Chances are if you bring it to their attention they will tell you the cause of your rotors being warped is excessive, heavy breaking. I raised some major hell and after fighting with Honda for 12,500 miles I finally got the rotors, pads and liner replaced for free under warrenty. Bitching on a daily basis I have found gets you kinda far with Honda. It will only get you so far but better than the first answer you get from them.

I had the same problem around 10,000 miles. I brought my car back to the dealership and they resurfaced my roters ( I asked for new ones, but the refused and I got resurfaced ones). I also had a problem w/ my front struts leaking oil and they replaced both of them. Anyways, they did everything under warrenty.

brakes are not covered by any warranty from any manufacturer.

reason being: you can leave the lot and warp/glaze the rotors and destroy the pads by the time you get home if you feel like it......

No they are not under warrenty and like I said if they were it would have been under the bumper to bumper. I had my brake pads, rotors and liners replaced under warrenty. The deal with getting them replaced under warrenty is, basically, you have to prove the brakes were defective. Which with Honda you are chasing your tail. Like I said mine were toast at 5,000 miles and they regrinded them twice and the problem was still there when I took the car home. So i fought with them forever and finally got them replaced at 18,500 miles. Honestly your best bet go buy after market pads and rotors.

Just take out your pads and look at them, if they are worn down ,the nget new ones, and feel you rotor, when its COLD!, if it bumpy, then it definelty needs to be resurfaced. the rotor wear depedns on your driving habits as much as the material and manufacturing of the rotors. but if it just started at 22,000 miles, then just take them to a shop and have them resurfaced, it shouldnt be more than 20 bucks. and for your pads, go get the ones from AUTOZONE with the lifetime warranty. i got a few of them for a few of my cars, and when they got worn out, i just went and got new ones to replace the old ones.

weird, i have noticed this too in my 2k1 lx at 23k miles. figured the rotors were warped, but not bad enough to cause any serious trouble, just a little annoying. ive slammed the brakes many a time so its my own fault im sure.
