another waranty problem....

my car has 10,000 miles on it, and acording to the manual its time for sceduled maintenance. i have normal driving habits, so i wanted to do the plan for normal driving conditions. i called my dealership to schedule a time to get it done. they off the bat tried to tell me the regular 10000 mile maintenance was the one for extreme driving conditions. i told them i only wanted the oil change and tire rotation like it says in the manual, and they said if i didnt get the extreme one it would viod my waranty. WTF is that about??? i dont have the money to get the other crap done, cause they want like $100, but a oilchange is only $20 so thats all i want. can someone explain this to me???

LMFAO your dealership is full of ****. The extreme driving conditions they are talking about says you should be getting an oil change at 5,000 miles not 10,000 and the normal conditions at 10,000. It will not void your warranty. As long as you follow the scheduled maintenance in the manual you are fine. PLUS they can't do that you can get your oil changed anywhere and it doesn't void the warranty. Honestly find a new dealership.

The normal driving condition is BS created by product developers that appear to have a big role in writing the manual. The normal driving that everyone does falls into the extreem condition. It's also BS that not having the dealer's 10k mainteance will void your waranty. You do have to have the basics done but not the dealers $500 oil change and fluid check. I hope you have another dealer in your area that's not such a punk.

You could probably change your oil every 10000 miles, and they wont void your warranty.

I change every 5k, but the dealer should only do what you tell em...I rotate my tires, so they dont do it and I dont get charged for it.

mosdef: RTFM it tells you when to change your oil. (though I don't believe it. I do it every 3-4k miles)

check you owners manual or service manual if your car came with it. It should have the details for each service.

Got a Civic 2002 exactly 4 mths ago. A few weeks ago, received reminder from dealership of due date for 1 service. Brought it in with 5000km (not miles) and was told by the service associate to go back either in 2mths time or 8000km. This is a 'low' maintenance vehicle. Who is right? A case where the left hand does not know what the right hand is doing. It looks like somebody is honest after all. Any comment please. Thanks

I don't remember the exact conversion from km to miles but if you look in your owners manual it will tell you that for harsh conditions service the car every 5,000 (sorry) miles and for normal driving conditions every 10,000 miles. If you look in the manual there is a maintanace schedule.
