Has anyone had any hesitation when starting the engine?

I don't know if it's my imagination, but lately it seems that I've had to hold the key down and it takes longer for the engine to kick over. Sometimes I've let go, since you reach that point where it seems too long, let go, and then had to turn the key a second time. It always does start up, but my car is still less than a year old and it seems like an unusual problem to be developing.

Humm what kind of octane gas are you using, and what is the temp like when you try to start it. Also what level is the gas gauge?

I have kind of noticed that too. It takes like a second longer, but my car still starts everytime. I use the regular exxon supreme gas, forgot the octane.

I also have an 01 LX and I have noticed this problem especially if the gas tank is near empty.

It is the the fuel system. It works on pressure, hence the three click warning on the gas cap. When starting it must build up pressure first in order to get it all going. Try not starting it so quickly. Click to the on position for like a sec or two and then start it. That should give it a chance to pressurize before you go cranking on the starter. This is also why it happens more frequently when the tank is closer to being empty.

apparently this is a honda thing. this happened to me a while back and i was worried so i called the service dept. at my dealer. he asked me all kinds of questions and finally decduced that, "oh, hondas do that sometimes, esp. if the gas is less than 1/4 tank." i've asked around and yes, its happened to a lot of my friends that drive hondas too. i always click the gas cap at least three times, i use 89 octane gas, and i treat the car like a princess so there's no real reason for it to do that. sometimes, it just does.
