For those of you with EX's, I have noticed that I don't grind the gears as much when I leave my armrest in the up position. Turns out that even with the short shifter, the armrest was not allowing my wrist to make the complete shifting motion, and I would grind gears more often with it down.

the dealer called me up late yesterday told me it was a bad syncro. They will have to rebuild the tranny as I thought. They do not have all the parts on hand so they will have to order a few. These parts are supposed to be in on Monday. They gave me back my car and said it was safe to drive. So now I've got a Monday morning appointment to drop my car off again. It sounds like the work will start as soon as the parts are in. No idea yet how long it will take yet I'll let you know when I do. The only parts they had to order was a new 3rd gear set (the one it was grinding), a bearing set, and syncros. Its a very big Honda dealership so I am guessing the rest of the seals ect are on hand. Hope that they don't mess up my cold air intake.

I had mine fixed last year...it would grind and pop out of 2nd sometimes when I was shifting from 1st or 3rd. Car needed 3 new gears (1st, 2nd and 5th if I remember right). Took a couple weeks 'cuz the parts weren't in. Under warranty, tho...that's why I buy new cars!

ok heres the deal. i dropped my car off last night for this tranny thing. the guy test drove it today and told me he didnt have any probs with it. the shifting was smooth, and he said the "clicking" thats pissing me off is coming from breaks, even tho it happens when i dont even use my breaks and only in 1st and 2nd gears....
anyways, i told him that when im shifting slowly it doesnt grind, it only happens when im doing it fast. so he said theyll drive it more tomorrow and see if they can replicate the prob with those situations.

but heres my problem with this...im not there to see what hes doing. for all i know hes just telling me that hes testdriving it. and i cant sit there with him in the morning and test it cause i got work. so what did you guys that had this done tell them? i dont think theyre gonna open up the tranny just to look at it if they "cant find any problems" in the testdrive.
and this clicking sound is pi$$ing me off too!!! my a$$ its from the breaks.

i need help.

what i would do is tell your work that youare having car problems and that you need to be there to test drive it with the mechanic. Most dealers are open at 7 am, and if you have to be at work at 8 am, shouldn't be too bad, depending on the location of the dealer and your work. Just call in and tell them taht you will be late, or tell them ahead of time, supers like that. and just take care of your car. you need that to get to work, and you need it fixed. Just my opinion.

yeah, so after the second day of "test driving" by the honda "professionals" they told me that they couldnt replicate the grinding problem. said the tranny was "ok" and nothing mentioned about the clicking sound.
but they recommended that i can bring the car back and personally drive it and show them.

heres the thing tho...its not like this happens all the time...sometimes like once a week, so if it doesnt grind then theres "no problem"
and im not gonna grind on purpose. WTF?? plus im beginning to wonder if it might be my fault and if im letting go of the clutch before i fully shift into gear.

either way, i am somewhat discouraged at the time being. i dont want to take a day off work to show some idiot how i drive my car...and possibly still not even get it fixed. whatever.....good thing its a lease. 3 more years and i get a new car. LOL

yeap!!! it is a recall. i've had my civic for almost 2 years now and found that problem out like the first 4 months i've had it. i told my cousin (WHO WORKS AT HONDA) about it and he didnt beleive me. anyways to keep the story short...he calle dme about 3 weeks ago and asked if it still happend...i said yeh...he then fixed it for me last week. the problem is now solved. and they changed my syncros and some gears. i beleive its 1st, 2nd, and 5th. same as the other person who posted it up! oh yeh and its been 2 years and WARRANTY still covered it...and my car is dropped, has headers, intake and exhaust. phew i dunno how my cousin pulled that one! anyway thats my story.....
