Hot coolant

I have a 2002 civic with the 1.7. My cel has been on and off for about a week coming up as a hot coolant code. My oil temp is staying fine. My fans are working and I’m not burning oil or coolant. Idk what’s going on. Any help would be appreciated

Re: Hot coolant

You have 2 coolant temperature sensors.

1 goes to the dash meter
2 goes to the computer

Sounds like you just need to test #2 and replace if it’s failed.

Re: Hot coolant

if you connect a decent scanner to the car it can read the temperature the sensor is reporting. the way i was taught to check the sensor is to connect the scanner when the vehicle is cool. if the sensor is reporting the temp as something odd like 150 and it's only 70° outside, you'd know the sensor has an issue. if it does the connector and sensor ground should be checked, if output is still off, sensor should then be replaced. i would clean and inspect the connector for the sensor before replacing it. sensors are cheap, but ideally i'd rather buy beer.

you should fix it soon, as they can cause odd issues. i had one get wacky on a malibu. it was reporting too cold and it was making the car shift harder, like chirping 2nd

What code number is that?

. My oil temp is staying fine.
How the hekk do you know that? You got extra gauges or sumpin?

You have 2 coolant temperature sensors.

1 goes to the dash meter
2 goes to the computer
Actually this is incorrect for 7th gen. One goes to the PCM and the gauges use the info from that one via data bus. The other is for the radiator fans.
