Drivers dome light and lights reminder not working
Drivers dome light and lights reminder not working
i bought my son his first car a few months ago. It’s an 05 Civic LX. The dome light doesn’t come on when you open the drivers door. Also, the key in reminder and the lights On reminder are not working. At first, I suspected the door switch. But I swapped the door switch from the passenger and drivers side and it still didn’t work, but it worked on the passenger side so I know it’s not the switch. Also, when you roll the front passenger window using the master switch on the drivers side, it will blow the fuse and then none of the windows will roll down or up. But the fuse doesn’t blow when rolling the windows up or down using their own switches. It also DOESNT blow when rolling the drivers window or the two rear windows up or down using the drivers master switch. The two issues may not be related but was hoping to get some insight before I start throwing money at parts trying to rule out potential problems.
My son has left his lights on a couple times draining the battery so I’d like to get this fixed before he kills the battery for good. Any ideas or trouble shooting tips???

Do the interior lights work again when you replace the blown fuse?
How many other odd electrical problems does the car have? List all issues you can think of.
Warning lights staying on?
AC quit working?
Headlight reminder beeper/key reminder beeper also quit working?

Re: Drivers dome light and lights reminder not working
All interior lights work and the the dome light comes on when opening all doors except for the drivers door.
Known electrical problems are:
1. fuse blows when rolling passenger front window down when using master switch but does not blow when using passenger switch
2. key in reminder does not work
3. dome light does not work when opening drivers door (but does work with the other 3 doors)
4. lights on reminder does not work
5. both tail/breaklights on trunk do not work, only the outer two work (replaced bulbs and still don’t work)
6. Air bag light stays lit on the instrument cluster
I’m not sure about the seatbelt reminder sound but can check that tomorrow.
As as far as I know everything else works as it should.

#2 - 3 -4 All related to inop driver side stuff
#5 only tail bulbs on trunk (and license bulbs) and they will also be out. Most likely a broken wire in the harness leading to trunk. Easy fix.

Re: Drivers dome light and lights reminder not working
Blowing fuses....would probably a short in one of the PW wires somewhere between the drivers door and the passengers door. A likely place for that to happen is in the jambs where wires flex every time the door opens, but certainly not limited to that area.
2/3/4,, I'd probably manually ground the wire for the jamb switch and see if that makes stuff work...If not, then check continuity of the green wire from the jamb switch to the fusebox (connector Q, terminal 4), then go from there.
5-Broken wire in the trunk lid harness where it flexes at the hinge area (trunk tail and license lights out? Pretty sure there are no brake lights in the trunk lid)

Im not sure how to manually ground it. I’m not very knowledgeable in electrical. I️ can definitely pull stuff apart and look for broken or corroded wires. My son told me last night that the top of the drivers side pillar Post is getting wet. This is after some snow fall and the snow started melting off his car. I’m thinking maybe an improperly sealed windshield. We are going to take it to safelite and see if they will pressure test it.
The wires running through the trunk seems like it will will be an easier task to find the bad wire. I’m not sure if the license plate lights work or not... I will check that out tonight.
As as far as fuses blowing when using the master switch for the passenger window, could it be a bad master switch?

Each plunger switch connection wire uses a single wire with metal terminal. Disconnect from plunger switch then provide a good ground path to that metal terminal connected to the wire, and watch for dome to light.
When I opened up the plastic split loom to expose wires I could slightly tug on problem wire it moved easily. (cannot locate wire color but there is a thread here)

Check where the rain gutter channel trim groove is in the roof. That's an area that can collect water and leak through dried out seam sealer. Remove the interior A pillar trim from alongside the windshield, remove sunvisor and pull down the door opening rubber trim, then lower the headliner in that corner just enough to see the roof....then douse with water and look for leaks.
If it's coming from the roof channel, you might lift the trim and slap fresh body seam sealer in it. If it's coming in at the glass, send it to the glass people.

Not equipped with sunroof, I assume....

COULD be. But is it? Gotta do more testing to prove anything....before wasting money. . Got a buddy with the same car, swap parts?
