2002 Civic will not start
2002 Civic will not start
Background: Last year I started having a problem with this car shutting down while I was driving. Car would go into limp mode, I would have to pull over and wait for different amounts of time and wait, and then car would start and run. In September 2016 I replaced the crank sensor, this fixed the problem. Then in Jan. of this year the same type problem started again. Car set P1361 and 1362 codes which is related to cam sensor. I replaced cam sensor and problem was fixed. Then in March of this year I drove car home and later went out to go somewhere and car would not start. Car would not start for days. Sometimes it would start and run, most times it would not start. Car is getting fuel, there is no spark to the plugs or stick coils. There are no codes showing. On 6/24/17 I took a chance and replaced the cam sensor, but still no start. My next action was to replace the crank sensor, but again I have no trouble codes. Anyone have the same experience and their idea what is wrong? Thanks, Craig

My guess is the ECU may be faulty. Not sure if there is a way to test an ECU but, you could pull or buy a used one that has a warranty and swap it in to see if it solves the problem. If not return it for money back. Read: https://www.yourmechanic.com/article...rol-module-ecm and https://www.google.com/search?num=50...k1.LaJfgzCE7n8
Re: 2002 Civic will not start
Thanks for your information. I will read the what you posted. I was thinking it was the crank sensor or the ECU. Yesterday evening I attempted to start car and it would not. I checked all the engine grounds and they were all good. Checked codes and there were none. I did another check that an acquaintance told me about. Checked fuel pump; we turned key on to listen for fuel pump (it should run with key on to prime system and shut off), it did this, (then while cranking the car to start the fuel pump should run again), the fuel pump did not kick back on and run. I was told that this indicates that the crank sensor is not sending a signal to ECU to say engine is cranking, thus ECU does not tell fuel pump to energize and run. Conclusion here is the crank sensor is bad. Do you agree, or anyone else have an opinion? Thanks!

Apparently the crankshaft sensor can go bad without a code. See the first thread here:
