Should I replace the head-cover gasket whenever I you remove the cylinder head?
Should I replace the head-cover gasket whenever I you remove the cylinder head?
I am taking the headcover off to replace my TDC sensor in my 2002 Civic ex. Should I replace the rubber gasket when I open the cylinder head?
Edit:
I should ask, do I have to ? I am trying to avoid replacing the gasket because I do not have the part on hand and i need to do the TDC sensor tomorrow morning.

it is so cheap i would replace it,
if not (depending on how old it is) you could rub a very light coating of high temp silicone on it using your finger....you are supposed to use silicone at the corners anyway

you can get it in the parts store nearby anytime... check their websites to see where they have it...
If you think a good mechanic is expensive, try hiring a bad one

IF the gasket is still soft and pliable, you can probably reuse it. If it's baked and hardened, it may end up leaking.
Dab a little RTV in the sharp corners like the original had.
Try it out. If it leaks later on, it's pretty easy to replace.
