Lower control arm -replace both or just bad?
Lower control arm -replace both or just bad?
2005 Civic LX, 111k.
Daughter started to complain about noise in front when turning hard. While taking apart the brakes, thinking that was the cause, I noticed a deteriorating bushing on the driver lower front control arm. I have to relook at the passenger side. From looking at a few YouTube video, it looks like it is within my mechanical skills.
Questions:
1. Replace damage side only or both sides?
2. Moog, Mevotech, Beck Arnley parts to purchase or stay away from?
3. Link bars to be replaced if both are bad.
4. Anything to watch for? I have impact tools
Thanks for answering, I have had very little to do on this vehicle. As my wife worked for Acura, there mechanics would often handle these as side jobs.

i put beck arnley ball joints in a few months ago and i have no complaints so far, also have an engine mount from them as well that i need to install still
3. Link bars to be replaced if both are bad.

Re: Lower control arm -replace both or just bad?
our control arms are cheap.
i simply installed new ones and kept (one, the other was cracked) the older one, so when time comes again, i will simply push new bushings in the old arms and swap them.

Re: Lower control arm -replace both or just bad?
I literally just replaced everything you mention in your OP. As suggested above, I would replace both lower control arms, because if one is bad, the other can't be far behind. I used Moog parts for all. Seems to be good quality, and have had good results with their products in the past. Still have to do inner/outer tie rods yet, and I found out that there's a special tool to remove the inners, otherwise they would've been done already.
Re: Lower control arm -replace both or just bad?
I've seen control arms for sale with bushings already installed. Is this the route you are pursuing or are you wanting to replace only the bushings? I replaced my control arm bushings with Energy Polyurethane bushings and it made the ride a little tighter and got rid of the noise.
