Re: High coolant pressure 2005 Acura EL

I can confirm that there is a hole on the exhaust bracket as per the diagram on a 2003 Acura EL so no worries.
I'd check the brakes and possibly a bent shield for the noise.

Thanks for the info on the empty bolt hole.

The squeaking noise turned out to be something caught up in my front brakes.

I blasted the calipers with a hose and the noise disappeared.

OK the noise is back LOL. I went to take it to Honda but at the time it was silent. No clue what it is but it's driving me insane, not that it's loud just the fact that I can't figure out what is causing it.

Here's a video:

Yeah you probably need a headset or speaker set to hear it LOL.

You probably wont hear anything if you are over 50 years old it's a very high pitched squeak. My dad and the neighbor I asked to listen both thought I was on drugs or schizophrenic hearing noises.

Turns out you quickly lose your high frequency hearing with age.

Ok can you point out the times on the video where the noise is most apparent?

I heard like two higher pitch chirps right around 20 seconds or so. The other similar noise I thought I heard coincided with you making large movements, so I disregarded that one.

Hell no, I don't know what it is.

Do we need to use your drugs to hear this noise?
Lemme hold a twenny dolla bill yo.

===============================================

I work in a shop, air tools are in use almost constantly.

I ride a Harley with wide open pipes. So do many of my friends, and nobody ever wants to ride behind my bike because it's so damn loud.

I've been way too close to several explosions.

Standing 2 feet behind open headers on blown big block Chevy boat made my ears ring for almost a week straight, I really though I did permanent damage that time. This was in the middle of winter last year.

There is NOTHING like Top Fuel drag racing !!!

Guns, guns, guns. 'Nuff said.

Numerous rock concerts, not one was ever quiet. Barely remember any of them LOL

I have mild Tinnitus.

----------------------------------
Just checked, I can still hear 14-15kHz using online test on the laptop speakers, no headphones. Probably not too bad, all things considered.

Aging can happen quicker than the hearing loss. The older you get, the faster the years go by.

My GFs aunt, who very recently passed away 2 weeks before turning 100, once recommended dying while you're still young because getting old is hell.

HAHA you sound exactly like my father. He also walked 15 miles to school uphill both ways.

I recruited my younger neighbor and got confirmation the squeak does exist. It's most prominent at 5-10 seconds of my video.

Any youngfella's with good ears around this board???

In the snow, punk!

I could hear it there kinda repeating at the rate of a cricket chirp, but no clue what it may be.
You're gonna have to use your ears and follow the sound (by intensity) to locate a source or area of origin.

Stethoscope?
Length of tubing held to your ear, use the free end as a stethoscope?

Re: High coolant pressure 2005 Acura EL

So I got fed up with the squeaking noise and took my car to Honda. The tech took a drive with me and threw it on the lift for $35.He took the front wheels off and called me into the shop to come look. Found out the driver side brake pad is starting to separate from the backing plate (aftermarket Raybestos pads).

The pads are still pretty thick with a lot of life left but I'm guessing it's a good idea to replace both front pads since most of the braking is done by the front.

Is it always necessary to replace/machine the rotors when replacing pads? Any recommended pad manufacturers?

That's dangerous shiz right there. If that lining comes off completely, you just won't have any brake pedal---it will go to the floor for about 3-5 pumps......which could mean life or death depending on the situation at the time.

The pads are still pretty thick with a lot of life left but I'm guessing it's a good idea to replace both front pads since most of the braking is done by the front.
Brakes are traditionally done in sets, both wheels on an axle all get the same treatment.

You have 4 front brake pads, two per wheel..... if one pad is worn out you replace the entire set of 4. Comprende?
You would also need to figure out why only one pad wore out, when they should all wear fairly evenly.

Your brake pad separated due to ....rust? And maybe poor bonding between steel and friction material. If one is trash, the rest came from the same place at the same time, they are ALL suspect and get replaced.
Is it always necessary to replace/machine the rotors when replacing pads?
Nope. If the car doesn't shake during braking, it's very smooth when you brake from interstate speeds....and there aren't seriously deep grooves worn into them, I might not touch the rotors at all.
Break-in period might take longer though.

If your rotors have a lot of rust, ....replace

Any recommended pad manufacturers?
Mine are always from Honda LOL.
Almost zero noise complaints from customers with OE.

I meant to say both front sets of pads

You would also need to figure out why only one pad wore out, when they should all wear fairly evenly
The pad wear was similar AFAIK just the drivers side pad seems to be partially separating from the back plate

My rotors appear in decent shape. I don't know what is more expensive: paying a rate for rotor machining if possible or buying a decent set of aftermarket rotors.

Call around and ask how much to resurface them if you carry them in.

Call machine shops, call parts stores. DangerZone might.
There's at least a couple parts stores in my town that do them dirt cheap for shops that don't have their own equipment.
I'd hope for around 10-15/each, give or take.

My manager once tried to charge a guy some insane amount of money for resurfacing because he tried to look up the fees "by the book", which doesn't always work in some situations. Guy carried in the rotors, there was no reason to charge the full amount for taking them off the car.
My rotors appear in decent shape.
Leave em alone? Slap new pads on and go!
