When merging onto freeway-car lags?
Okay so I'll be merging onto a freeway then when it hits 2nd gear(auto) , it feels like I have to force my car to go faster. Like it'll sounds like I'm flooring it but I'm really not. Are all civics like this ? My dad was a Honda mechanic and he says due to it being a 4 cyl it's normal but I don't wanna believe him. I feel bad stepping on the gas pedal hard, wearing my engine faster :/

Re: When merging onto freeway-car lags?
Any CEL's?
Is the transmission slipping, flaring or shifting issues in any gear?
What your describing it sounds like 2nd gear may be slipping however, if your old man was a mechanic he should be able to distinguish that easily.
1.7's are pretty ball-less but shouldn't be a bad as you're describing.
Take it to pops, have him sand the rust of his tools and get to diagnosing..lol

These engines make peek torque in the top end of the rpm band so flooring it to merge sounds about right to me...
Perhaps if you can find another auto 1.7 and test drive it to compare.
