03' Civic DX - Ignition key not turning
03' Civic DX - Ignition key not turning
Hey guys,
I'm posting this on behalf of one of my friends who owns a 2003 DX civic. He went to start his car this morning and when he puts in the key the lock cylinder wouldn't budge (and thats after playing with the steering wheel). He tried his 2 other spares and nothing the ignition won't move. I'm guessing this is a worn out key-lock cylinder. How hard is it to remove and replace with a junker one? or is it possible to open it up and service whatever might be worn out?
Thanks

Has he tried tapping it with the end of a screwdriver or a rubber mallet? I haven't had it happen on my civic but on a Mazda the wife had. Tapped it pretty good a few times and voila.

Sounds like tumbler(s) worn out and jammed inside the lock.
Pull the lock assembly off the column.
Take the lock to your dealer and have them retumble the ignition cylinder.
Also take the best key you have for it.
(Maybe you should call them first, some dealers have not figured out how to do this job. If they can't do it, try the next closest dealer.
MAaaybe a local lock shop can do it? None here can, the dealer is the only choice in my town.)
This should save the cost of having a new lock and immobilizer programmed.
