Overfilled Oil

I have a 2004 Civic 1.7L. I did an oil change at the dealership today. They put 0W20 oil instead of 5W20. 0W20 is a little thinner, would this effect the engine?

Also, the mechanic overfilled the oil by 1 cm (above FULL mark). I believe this works out to be about half a quart (~500mL) over the FULL mark. Is this a concern for foaming and blowing seals?

Re: Overfilled Oil

0w20 is fine and is now on Hondas recommended oil list.

Half quart overfull is not something I would worry about.

NOTE: I check oil immediately after turning the engine off.
If you let it sit for a while, the oil level indicated can rise some as the oil filter drains out, and it may look like about a half quart. This is also normal and expected.

Start the engine, shut it off, check level immediately.

If the oil really is overfull and you are worried, return to wherever you had it done and have them correct their mistake. Dang kids need to learn somehow!
Double check before you leave, make sure you are satisfied.

You might take a sharpie or paint marker and write 3.5 Q on the valve cover next to the oil cap. That should get it pretty close.

I see these things roll in with FIVE quarts in them sometimes. The engine doesn't seem to care.
