Idle problem lights dimming while idle jumps up and down

My 2002 honda civic ex 5 speed idles kind of like it pulses while in neutral during this the headlights on the car Dimm nsync with the pulses/rough idle I bought a new battery, still the same problem. I left the car running and disconnected the positive terminal on the battery and the problem went away completely. When I reconnected the positive terminal the pulsing /rough idle returned. Does anybody know what may be causing this problem? help would be appreciated.

Re: Idle problem lights dimming while idle jumps up and down

The pulsing,as far as I can tell, appears to be directly linked to your alternator kicking on and off
(Supported by the fact that, when you disconnected the positive you effectively disconnected the alternator from the battery)

Get a battery / charging system test done.

Also, I believe this is in the wrong sub-forum, maybe a moderator will move it.
