Angry 2001 Civic SI (Canadian)

I was driving my car on the highway.. I got off the highway and car was acting stupid.. As soon as I stopped at a set of lights my battery light flickered on and a loud squealing noise could be heard. Battery light went off and service engine soon light came on. Pulled over. Shut off car. Tried to read code on ECU and my code reader can not connect to computer.. Tried to connect numerous times and no luck... I have no temp gauge and no rpm gauge... I can start the car but i have to crank it along time to start it.. It has also gone into limp mode.. Will not rev over 3000 rpm. i have a capcitor for my amp with car running it is reading 12.3volts which would tell me alternator.. But why won't code reader connect to computer? Any help would be great.. Car is somewhere else and not at my house... Cigarette lighter plug still works. Please help
